The best moving company in Clarksville for YOU

No two moves are exactly alike, but knowing what you need and want in advance will make your move day go as smoothly as possible. Some companies specialize in soup-to-nuts white-glove service; others make affordability their calling card, with stripped-down service offerings that get you the most bang for your buck. Others specialize in knowing their local markets in and out, while some are specialists in moving belongings across the country (or across the world). What qualities will be most important to you will depend on your location, your move details and your budget.

While there’s no one-size-fits-all answer, certain companies do so much, so well, that it's easy to recommend them. We think the best overall moving company in Clarksville is 6th Man Movers. The company has won legions of fans with its service-first ethos and flexible, personalized move-day offering. Whether you’re moving locally or out of state, need as much help as possible or only want unloading service, 6th Man goes the extra mile to make sure your move day goes smoothly.

6th Man Movers is the best overall Clarksville moving company

Crew members from 6th Man Movers unloading boxes from a truck (6th Man Movers)

6th Man Movers, founded in Nashville in 2013, takes its name from the sixth man in basketball, the multi-skill player who comes in off the bench to play whatever role the team needs. And that’s the role the company prides itself on playing for more than 2,500 Clarksville customers every year.

While 6th Man Movers doesn’t run background checks on its employees, when we spoke to a company representative, he said that the majority of the crew members were long-term employees who had been with the company for years, and who are often requested by name by returning customers (and name-checked in their reviews online, which we can confirm).

The hourly rate for a standard two-man crew is $190 per hour, and $240 per hour for a three-man crew, with a service fee equivalent to one hour that covers the truck, travel time and supplies, assessed accordingly. The company has a two-hour minimum, so the base price for a move with a two-person crew would be $570, covering two hours at $190 an hour plus a $190 service fee.

Services offered

  • Residential and commercial moves

  • Local and long-distance moves, including senior moves and school moves

  • Storage

  • Packing services and packing supplies

  • Labor-only option

  • Piano moves

The company accepts payment by ACH draft, check, and credit card. (If you choose to pay by credit card, there is a 3% fee on credit card payments.) A deposit, which is applied to the final balance, is required — a standard three-bedroom move would have a deposit of around $200, but it is fully refundable with 72 hours' notice.

6th Man Movers is accredited by the BBB and has an A- rating from the organization. Four complaints have been filed against it in the past three years, most about damage during the move. The firm has a stellar 4.9-star rating on Google across 2,230 reviews and a 4.8-star rating on Angi with 230 reviews. The ratings on Yahoo are slightly lower at 4.3 stars, with a handful of reviewers citing damage or inaccurate estimates.

You can reach 6th Man Movers at its offices at 2609 Cruzen St., Nashville, Tenn., 37211. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, call 615-912-8985 or visit the website.

Customer testimonial

These guys were the best!!! They were very careful with our things and even managed to move a large couch that other movers couldn’t in the past. They were communicative, on-time, and worked fast and got it done in the quoted time. They were also all kind & understanding of our barking dogs. 10/10 would hire again, especially if these guys were our assigned movers. - Anastasia P., Google reviews (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

BLVD Moving is the best national moving company

A BLVD Moving semi-truck in a parking lot
A BLVD Moving semi-truck in a parking lot (BLVD Moving)

Yahoo Local is dedicated to helping people make informed choices about local services. While we love showcasing nearby movers, sometimes a larger national company can be a better fit depending on your situation. If you’re still weighing your options, take a look at our guide that explains how local movers compare to national ones. For those planning an out-of-state relocation or looking for a company that operates nationwide, BLVD Moving is our top pick.

BLVD Moving is a family-operated business based in California, led by a team with decades of professional moving experience. The company runs four offices across the state but arranges both local and long-distance moves throughout the United States. Per its terms, it owns its own fleet of trucks and employs its own moving crews, though, like many major movers, it may occasionally work with partner carriers or subcontractors during busy seasons.

We requested a quote from BLVD Moving for a 500-mile relocation involving roughly 1,340 cubic feet of items — the average size of a standard three-bedroom home without large appliances. The estimate was approximately $6,700, which aligns with typical national moving rates. To confirm a booking, a 33% deposit is required, with 50% of the remaining balance due at pickup and the final payment collected after delivery.

Services offered

  • Local and long-distance moving

  • Residential, office, and commercial relocations

  • Packing and unpacking assistance

  • Short-term and long-term storage options

  • Financing for eligible customers

If you need to cancel, BLVD Moving refunds deposits when cancellations are made at least two full business days before pickup. Delivery times range from two to 21 business days, depending on distance, starting from the customer’s chosen delivery date.

Booking early is recommended, ideally about a month ahead of your moving day, especially during high-demand periods like summer or at the beginning and end of the month. The quote process is straightforward — you can fill out an inventory form online or schedule a virtual walkthrough. Financing is also available, with interest rates starting at 0% for qualified applicants.

BLVD Moving is accredited by the BBB and holds a B rating, with 97 total complaints within the past 12 months. While that number may seem high, it’s fairly standard for a company serving customers nationwide. Reviews are mixed but generally positive: the company averages 4.4 stars on Google (from 1,304 reviews) and 2.2 stars on Yelp (from 377 reviews). All of its movers are background-checked employees.

The company’s headquarters is located at 21622 Plummer St., Chatsworth, Calif., 91311. BLVD Moving operates seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time. To request a quote, call 844-274-0500 or visit its website.

Tennessee moving FAQs

What info should you have when requesting an estimate?

When you’re ready to get an estimate for your move, the more information you can provide, the better. Here is some of what you may need:

  • Where you’re moving from, and where you’re moving to (even if all you can say is whether it’s a local, interstate, or long-distance move)

  • The square footage of your home and apartment, and how many bedrooms it is

  • When you’re planning to move

  • If you’ll have any unusually large or unusually heavy items, like pianos or gun safes, or items requiring special care, like fine art or delicate electronics

Some moving companies will send an in-person estimator to create a final estimate, and others will work with an inventory list to determine the final scope of your move. But being able to answer the questions above should be enough for most firms to start your estimate. For more information, check out our guide on what information you need to get an accurate moving quote.

What should you know about packing and storage in Tennessee?

Tennessee has a humid climate year-round, with mild (but sometimes snowy) winters; temperate falls and springs; and hot summers. If you’ll be packing and storing your things in Tennessee, you’ll want to make sure your boxes are securely packed (ideally in packaging that will keep water out) and stored in a location that’s well protected from leaks, drips or flooding.

While you won’t need to worry about the wild seasonal temperature swings that other parts of the country undergo, we recommend you consider seeking out climate-controlled storage units. Fluctuations in temperature and humidity levels can play havoc with delicate items like musical instruments, fine art, electronics, and even things like wooden furniture and upholstery, and finding a storage location that maintains a consistent climate is an investment in protecting your belongings.

What's different about condo and apartment moving in Tennessee?

Moving out of or into a condo or apartment can require some additional planning. If your building has an elevator, checking with your building manager or super to reserve the elevator or find out if there’s a service elevator you can use can make your move faster and avoid inconveniencing your neighbors. Your building may also have recommendations for parking and unloading that can make the whole process run more smoothly.

If you’ll be moving into a walk-up building, letting your moving company know in advance how many flights of stairs they’ll be going up will help them adequately staff your move and make arrangements for any of your heavier or bulkier items.

Some buildings will request that your moving company provide a certificate of insurance (COI) that provides proof of its insurance coverage in case of damage to the building during the move. If your building requires a COI, contact your movers to make sure they’re able to provide one — note that some moving companies will charge a service fee to provide a COI.

Do you need moving permits or licenses to move in Tennessee?

There’s no statewide requirement for households moving in Tennessee to obtain a permit or a license, although all movers operating within the state need to be licensed by the Tennessee Department of Revenue. Most cities in Tennessee, including Clarksville, don’t have any additional permitting requirements for standard moves, but if you’ll be impeding the flow of traffic or occupying paid parking spots during your move — or if the moving truck itself exceeds the city’s regulations on size or weight — you may need permits. For more, read our guide to Tennessee moving company licensing and regulations.

How much should you tip movers in Tennessee?

Tipping your movers isn’t mandatory, but especially if they went above and beyond, it’s a gesture that’s appreciated. If you want to pay a percentage, a good rule of thumb is to split anywhere between 10 and 20% of the total cost of the move between the movers. Or, if you’d rather pay a flat rate, $10 per hour per person is a frequently cited formula, meaning if you’re tipping a team of three movers who worked for 8 hours, you’d tip them $80 apiece, or $240 total. While some moving companies may be able to add your tip onto your total bill if you’re paying by check or credit card, cash for tips is always appreciated — and in some cases may be the only way to tip. For more on tipping, read our guide to tipping movers.
