The British video game designer who brought "Call of Duty: Black Ops" to life has officially parted ways with the California residence where he first imagined the blockbuster franchise.

Dave Anthony, often referred to as a billion-dollar game designer due to his work on the series, accepted a $22 million offer for his Brentwood estate after listing it for nearly $27 million in May 2024, according to Realtor.com. The transaction closed on Nov. 19, ending an 18-month effort to find the right buyer.

Anthony purchased the land back in 2010 for $3.5 million, when a home built in the 1940s occupied the lot at that time. He and his wife, Betim, eventually razed that structure to construct an entirely new residence tailored to their specifications.

Anthony’s lifelong passion for gaming directly influenced the architecture of his seven-bedroom home, which also includes 8.5 bathrooms.

The residence features a soundproofed office with a concealed server room tucked behind a hidden entrance. According to Realtor.com, that same space functions as a secure panic room.

Anthony's experience building virtual environments carried over into constructing his physical one, The Wall Street Journal reported. "When you're making a video game, you're creating a world, and it has to be very, very consistent when you're in it," he told the outlet. "If there's anything that takes you out of that world, then you lose your audience."

Smart Home Features And British Design Fill The "Call Of Duty" Creator’s Estate

Despite originating from the mind of a tech industry figure, the mansion draws heavily from traditional British design elements both inside and out.

The interior tells a different story when it comes to amenities. A comprehensive smart home system manages automated window treatments throughout the residence, and the primary bedroom suite includes a retractable 100-inch projector screen for entertainment, Realtor.com reported.

Additional features include a soundproofed screening room, a recreation area with a wet bar and pool table, and an outdoor fountain equipped with programmable lighting synchronized to music. The kitchen has heated flooring, ceilings finished in wood panels, and one of the last wood-burning fireplaces permitted in Los Angeles, which also works with gas, according to Realtor.com.

Architects designed the structure in an H-shape configuration to ensure natural light reaches every room. Expansive glass walls open directly onto manicured grounds and a swimming pool.

"Call Of Duty" Earnings Funded A Dream Home That Cost 3 Times The Budget

The couple never disclosed their total construction budget, but they acknowledged to the Journal that final expenses reached triple their original projections. Anthony told the outlet he considered himself fortunate to have earned such substantial income, which allowed him to create a home for his family.

When Anthony first put the property up for sale, he declined to share where he and his wife planned to relocate. He said only that he felt ready to pursue new opportunities in both his career and personal life, Realtor.com reported.

The "Call of Duty" franchise has generated over $35 billion in total revenue since the first "Black Ops" installment launched in 2009, according to the Journal. Anthony departed the company behind the games in 2013.
