A dad driving his son to a basketball game is still shaken after catching a terrifying highway crash on camera — and the clip is now spreading fast online.

The man behind the footage, Amador Rodriguez, told KENS 5 that he was heading north on I-35 just after 8 a.m. Saturday, when he noticed the truck merge onto the highway. Almost immediately, he said, something about the way it moved across the lanes made him uneasy.
“Yeah, it was shocking,” Rodriguez said. “But um, to be honest… I kind of saw it coming.”
Rodriguez said the truck appeared to be driving erratically, and he thought it may have hydroplaned on the left side. Instead of trying to rush past it, he said he stayed behind the truck — instinctively keeping space between them.
That decision likely helped keep him and his son safe. As Rodriguez passed under RT-281, he said his gut told him something was about to happen, so he pulled out his phone and started recording.

Seconds later, the moment he feared played out in front of him. Rodriguez captured the truck veering off the road and slamming into the pole of a highway sign near the New Braunfels exit, causing the sign to come crashing down.
“I felt panic,” Rodriguez told the outlet. “I felt a little bit of like, is this thing going to come all the way down? Is it going to stop?”
With debris falling, Rodriguez said he gave his car “just a little bit of gas” to move forward and away from the danger. He said he immediately stopped recording and called the San Antonio Police Department — but didn’t pull over, because he didn’t want to put his son at risk.

According to a police report cited by KENS 5, the truck driver was a 29-year-old man who told officers he was cut off by another driver and lost control. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and is expected to be okay.

For Rodriguez, the aftermath has been hard to shake — especially knowing how close it all came to disaster. “And I’m thankful, very thankful that that sign did not follow me, my son,” he told KENS 5.
