Winter weather is quickly arriving, as December kicks off in Nashville with chances for light snowfall accumulation.

According to the National Weather Service, a system expected to bring widespread precipitation through the morning and early afternoon of Dec. 2 will move into Middle Tennessee from the south on the afternoon of Dec. 1.

Conditions will begin with cold rain later on Dec. 1 and into the night, wrote the weather service in their morning discussion, but as temperatures drop overnight, some areas may transition to wintry precipitation by the morning of Dec. 2.

Currently, areas north of Interstate 40 appear most likely to experience mixed or wintry precipitation, wrote the weather service.

There is a medium to high chance of that precipitation changing to snow or sleet around 11 p.m. on Dec. 1, wrote the weather service in a situation report.

Snowfall projections have decreased, with less than half an inch expected overall, though there is still a 20–40% chance of slightly higher totals north of I-40.

Minor travel impacts are possible through the morning of Dec. 2, with another round of light snow forecast for Dec. 5.
