Interest in Russian armaments abroad is at a record level, Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said on Monday.

"Until 2022, the maximum order value was $55 billion. Today, with $70 billion in already signed contracts, we have a record," Manturov said during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.

Manturov attributed this to the war against Ukraine ordered by Putin in 2022. "The technology tested within the framework of the military special operation advertises itself," he said. Russian officials refer to the Ukraine war as a military special operation.

Russian air-defence systems, aircraft and multiple rocket launchers are particularly in demand, according to Manturov.

However, the high level of orders also has a downside: As recently as December, Manturov admitted that export orders would have to take a back seat to the Russian army's demand for new weapons, meaning they would be processed with delays.

Russian war propagandists, such as the head of the state media holding RT, Margarita Simonyan, had originally predicted a quick Russian victory in the war against Ukraine; in reality, the conflict has lasted longer than the Soviet Union's defensive struggle against Nazi Germany in World War II.

Moscow now explains the length of the confrontation by claiming that Russia is fighting against the entire West in Ukraine, when in fact NATO has not sent any soldiers to Ukraine. However, the West is helping the embattled country with weapons for its own defence.
