A semitractor-trailer driver is believed to have serious injuries after crashing into a snowplow truck on State 29, the Shawano County Sheriff's Office said in a Jan. 19 news release.

The Shawano County Dispatch Center received "numerous calls" of a two-vehicle crash at 9:50 a.m. just east of Bonduel near High Line Road.

Both the semitruck and snowplow were traveling west on State 29, with the snowplow actively plowing the median shoulder/inside lane, according to the news release. A preliminary investigation, headed by the Wisconsin State Patrol, found the semitruck crashed into the plow truck's rear end.

The news release said the plow truck was pushed into the median and the semitruck jack-knifed into a ditch. No vehicles were in the outside lane at the time of the crash, a witness told investigators, who were still determining why the semitruck driver did not move over into another lane.

Both vehicles were severely damaged, the news release said, though the snowplow driver only had minor injuries and could get out of the snowplow unassisted. The sheriff's office was unsure of the condition of the semitruck driver who was trapped inside the truck and had to be taken out by fire crews, but believed the driver's condition was serious as a ThedaStar helicopter was requested, the news release said.

Several westbound lanes were completely blocked when the sheriff's office responded to the scene with the Bonduel Fire Department, Bonduel EMS, Shawano Ambulance and the Shawano County Fire Department.

As of 3 p.m., all westbound lanes are open, according to 511 Wisconsin.
