Hi, I'm Alexa, and I usually use this space to track Donald Trump's "hot" economy, but we also need to examine how his policies are affecting everyday people — especially his loyal followers. So, welcome to Donnie Hate Watch.

It's no secret that President Donald Trump has made ending social programs like the Affordable Care Act a huge part of his personality.

Throughout his first term, campaign season, and his second presidency, the 79-year-old has ceaselessly gone after programs designed to help low-to-mid-income Americans.

That includes cuts to Medicaid, previously withholding SNAP benefits and threatening to suspend them in Minnesota, cuts to homelessness assistance, proposing the elimination of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, and more.

Despite the president's blatancy, his loyal base often appears surprised by the removal of programs they've come to depend on.

Among them is this Trump voter, who we'll refer to as Dianne. Online, Dianne lamented about "a rise" in social programs, which she describes as "state control, redistribution, and dependency."

"The same people celebrating... will be the ones dealing with tax hikes and budget shortages tomorrow. Funds will dry up and collide with economic reality," Dianne posted online.

Socialist-Democrat politics — which are defined by belief in stronger social safety nets — are dangerous and bad, according to Dianne.

Unless, it seems, those programs benefit her family, because Dianne also responded to one of Trump's posts with the following: "We are patiently waiting for prices to come down."

Post from DiAnne George: Expresses concern about federal cuts affecting heating assistance for seniors, and asks why funding was reduced

"Unfortunately, Federal cuts have hurt my elderly mother and other seniors - my mother received a notice that there is no HEAP money available. Why would you cut funding that helps people to heat their homes?" she asked.

Note: HEAP is a federally funded program that helps low-income residents pay their heating and cooling bills. The program experienced a delay in funding after Trump cut its staff.

In response to Dianne's posts, commenters held nothing back when trying to make sense of her shaky beliefs. Most made the typical "you voted for this" quips.

"Well DiAnne you voted for your elderly mother to pull herself up by her bootstraps," Reddit user Divacai wrote.

"Dianne, why does your mother need redistribution and socialism? Shouldn't you be celebrating the end of her dependency on the state? You got what you voted for," CalcareousSoil added.

Others suggested Dianne foot her mother's bill to avoid using the social programs she is so heavily against.

"Socialism bad, so I guess she better start paying gram’s utility bills," PrivatePilot9 said. "I’m sure she has tons of extra cash anyways with everything having got so cheap in the last few months."

The post made people wish it was required for participants to understand what kind of program they're signing up for.

"I swear people should have to sign a document that they acknowledge that their ACA subsidy, their unemployment, their disability, their social security, their snap, their wic, their HEAP, their VA benefits, their medicare, etc etc ARE socialism policy," ktaktb said.

But who knows if that would help conservatives acknowledge their benefits.

"Dianne learning the hard way what democratic socialism actually is," nada-accomplished said.

Overall, commenters felt that, too often, MAGA tends to justify these programs for themselves, and leave little understanding for others.

"The only moral handouts are ones for my family, fuck everyone else – [Dianne,] apparently," Ijustlovevideogames said.
